Abstract

French culture and civilizational identity are the result of a long history shaped by the interplay of political centralization, republican ideals, secularism (laïcité), intellectual tradition, and contemporary transformations influenced by globalization and immigration. The article analyzes the key cultural and civilizational characteristics of the French, which are derived from statism and corporatism. These are, above all, elitism, secular state nationalism, institutional formalism, and elitist particularism.
