Abstract: The authors believe that in countries that have recently joined theEuropean Union, regional policy is implemented in a context of weaker developmentcompared to other EU member states, leading to a focus on nationwide issues. As aresult, regional development and the resolution of regional issues are given secondaryimportance.Summarizing approaches to implementing regional policy in EU countries, theauthors note that, in almost all cases, the policy aims to create conditions that enableregions to fully realize their economic potential and thereby increase theircontribution to national economic growth. This objective is one of the core tasks ofregional policy among EU countries. The examined European experience highlights a number of advantages ofimplementing regional socio-economic development programs, benefiting both thestate as a whole and individual regions. The European Union has its own supportmechanism for regional development in the form of targeted programs, which actively involve organizations at both national and regional levels.
