Enterprise digital resilience capability framework: an integrated dynamic capability approach

dc.description.abstractThis paper addresses how organisations can develop integrated capabilities to withstand digital disruptions while leveraging them strategically. Three critical gaps are identified: treating digital risk management operationally rather than strategically, using inadequate linear risk models, and lacking practical implementation guidance. The research develops a comprehensive framework integrating dynamic capabilities theory with enterprise resilience, establishes measurable constructs, and provides a practical maturity model. A multi-stage conceptual development methodology was employed: systematic literature integration across digital transformation, enterprise resilience, and dynamic capabilities; iterative framework development; expert validation using modified Delphi methodology with 12 experts achieving strong agreement (kappa=0.83); and implementation roadmap creation for different maturity levels. The Digital Resilience Capability Framework establishes relationships between three components—Anticipatory Intelligence System, Adaptive Response Architecture, and Strategic Transformation Capability—mapping to Teece's sensing-seizing-reconfiguring taxonomy. Six integration pathways create a cohesive system exhibiting recursive learning, temporal integration, cross-boundary integration, and value amplification. The Digital Resilience Maturity Matrix formalises resilience as evolving through five progressive levels from Reactive to Transformative. This research addresses theoretical triangulation by integrating dynamic capabilities theory, complex adaptive systems, and enterprise resilience. It operationalises how dynamic capabilities enable digital resilience and reconceptualises resilience as a strategic meta-capability, challenging risk-avoidance paradigms. Complex adaptive systems principles explain how component interactions generate amplified resilience value. The framework provides structured capability development, balancing immediate mitigation with long-term advantage. The maturity matrix enables precise diagnostic assessment while integration mechanisms ensure cohesive system functionality. The Digital Value Resilience Ratio quantifies strategic benefits beyond risk avoidance, strengthening business cases for resilience investments.
