Digital transformation of export-import activities through distributed tracing

dc.description.abstractThe study revealed that distributed tracing technology holds significant potential to enhance export-import operations by improving the efficiency, transparency, and reliability of international trade processes. A key advantage is real-time tracking of goods, which enables better supply chain management and reduces risks related to documentation errors, transportation delays, and counterfeit products. This, in turn, facilitates more accurate forecasting and timely responses to potential disruptions. Effective implementation of distributed tracing requires data integrity and immutability, process automation, environmental benefits, and system interoperability. Distributed ledgers ensure trustworthy and tamper-proof data, which is essential in international trade. Automation helps reduce operational costs, improve efficiency, and speed up transactions. Additionally, the environmental impact of distributed tracing is noteworthy, as it minimizes paper usage and streamlines supply chains, reducing the overall ecological footprint. A comparative analysis of practices in the EU and Ukraine shows that the European Union has already established a solid regulatory foundation for implementing such technologies, enabling their broader integration into trade processes. In contrast, Ukraine remains at an early stage due to the lack of unified standards and limited state support. The EU experience underscores the importance of institutional coordination, targeted funding, public-private partnerships, and pilot initiatives in export-oriented sectors. For Ukraine, adopting a similar approach – alongside legal reforms, digital modernization, and stronger collaboration between business and government – can significantly accelerate the adoption of distributed tracing and align the country’s trade infrastructure with global standards.
