Modern Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Education

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into foreign language teaching in higher education has created new opportunities for personalizing learning and enhancing students’ communicative competence. This study examines the potential of AI-driven technologies, including generative AI tools, learning management systems, adaptive platforms, and conversational agents, in supporting English language instruction for students of non-linguistic specialties. Particular attention is paid to the educational benefits of these technologies, such as individualized feedback, increased motivation, expanded opportunities for authentic language practice, and improved accessibility of learning resources. At the same time, the study highlights key challenges associated with AI implementation, including digital inequality, insufficient AI literacy, ethical concerns related to academic integrity and data privacy, and the risk of overreliance on technology. The findings emphasize the importance of balancing technological innovation with pedagogical guidance and institutional support.
