Integration and Semantic Transformation of Foreign Professional Titles in Ukrainian Economic Terminology: Specific Features

Abstract

The article explores the characteristic trends in changing the semantic structure of borrowed professional names within modern Ukrainian economic terminology, considering the specifics and approaches outlined in linguistic and specialized studies in this field. It describes the terminology of the industry used in terminographic works and traces the process of replenishing the terminological system with borrowed elements. The manifestations of both complication and simplification of the semantic structure, as well as the reintegration of meanings, are characterized. The relevance of studying the pathways of penetration and adaptation of these specific terminological borrowings, along with the expansion of their semantic structure in modern Ukrainian economic terminology, is driven by the lack of both a comprehensive systemic description and a structural analysis. It is established that modern Ukrainian economic terminology is in a state of active change caused by the interaction of multilingual terminological systems, which is accompanied by terminological borrowings from European languages, particularly English. Within the analyzed terminological system, the borrowed names of individuals by profession, type of activity, preferences, or interests constitute a significant and organic part of modern Ukrainian economic terminology; they are at the stage of active assimilation, undergo testing in the linguistic practice of native speakers, and are gradually integrated into Ukrainian economic discourse. The study and systematization of such linguistic units allow not only for identifying their specifics in Ukrainian vocabulary but also for investigating changes in the semantic structure of borrowings in other lexico-semantic groups of terms.
