Abstract: The article is devoted to the research of motives for using social networks. The socio-demographic characteristics of users of the social network Facebook (its Ukrainian segment) were analyzed. The heterogeneity of users of the social network was considered based on data on the spread of their interests, which made it possible to identify four main motives for using the Facebook social network: hedonistic, social, active and professional.
